...OK, WTF? I was listening to Aqua while making this one, now the title winds up an Ali Project song. Somebody tell me what was wrong with my brain.

Anyways, Chizuru/Seishirou is probably my favorite het pairing ever. Not only are they playing husband and wife in canon, but the deeper you dig, the more you realize exactly how dangerous the relationship is...and how sweet.

To put things into perspective: A Shiki does not have to kill. It takes four bites before the parasite becomes fatal. That's plenty of time for transfusions and such. There are several possible ways that Seishirou is avoiding death by Chizuru's bite, including his wife's implicit promiscuity and possibly using Ebuchi's medical resources. Ebuchi's never fully developed, but it's easy to imagine what happened.

Before you start trying to copy Seishirou's example, realize that a lot of time, money, and blood go into keeping Chizuru content. The stars just aligned perfectly for Seishirou to be one of the few who could reasonably handle a 'pet' Shiki. (I use that term VERY loosely.) It is not something that I would recommend the average person attempting, although Kanami gave it her best shot.

It is perfectly possible for humans and Shiki to live together. Chi-shirou is the proof.

(Also, I have a thing for pairings in which one partner can potentially kill the other. Love strikes me as the power to completely break someone at a moment's notice, so if such power is withheld, all the sweeter. The 'checkmate' angle fascinates me.)
